KOREN (KOrea advanced REsearch Network)
- An integrated research testbed combining Software Defined Networking, Cloud, and NFV infrastructure, available free of charge for experimental purposes by industry, academia, and research institutions for developing leading domestic and international technologies.
- A non-profit integrated research testbed providing broadband, high-quality domestic and international R&D networks to industry, academia, and research institutions, supporting verification of future network technologies and promoting R&D and international research collaboration.
- An ICT R&D virtuous cycle ecosystem infrastructure that efficiently supports the commercialization of network infrastructure R&D results.
- The Next-Generation Leading Research Testbed Network operates a backbone network connecting 10 major cities nationwide (Seoul, Suwon, Pangyo, Daejeon, Jeonju, Gwangju, Daegu, Busan, Jeju, Chuncheon) at speeds of 10Gbps to 7Tbps.
- Directly connected to international research networks (TEIN) at 100Gbps through overseas access points (TEIN Hong Kong, TEIN Singapore), securing connectivity to GEANT/EU and Internet2/US through APAN-JP via Hong Kong.
Characteristics of KOREN
- KOREN has evolved from a network research infrastructure to a 4th Industrial Revolution-based research network with 1T-class ultra-high-speed networks, cloud, and high-performance computing.
- KOREN member institutions can configure and operate virtualized intelligent infrastructure such as SDN/NFV/Cloud through the KOREN-SDI integrated operation portal.
- World's first domestic backbone upgraded to 1T-class by 2023 with quantum technology application, and subscriber networks upgraded from 10G/40G to 100G.
- Provides communication lines up to 100G speed, various cloud services, video conferencing services, and free supercomputer-level high-performance computing (HPC) environment.
- Provides various wireless network R&D test environments including existing PS-LTE, IoT (NB-IoT, LoRa), Wi-Fi, and 5G open testbed.
Advantages of KOREN
- Network interconnection and field testing possible that cannot be done on commercial networks.
- Large-scale application service demonstration research possible.
- R&D cost reduction and shortened development period through free provision of up to 100G-class line services.
- International research collaboration possible through linkage with international research networks.
- Korea's only integrated research testbed capable of pure testing and large-capacity traffic transmission.
