International Activities

KOREN participates in global R&E network programs to expand collaboration and high-speed connectivity.

Asi@Connect Project

  • The follow-up to TEIN4 that advances networking between countries and activates applications using the network.
  • Operated by TEIN*CC with support from the Ministry of Science and ICT, funded by €20M (EU) + €16M (participating countries).
  • Aims to manage/support infrastructure for large scientific data (telemedicine, remote education, climate/disaster research) and to revitalize joint research by connecting Asian research networks.

ASEM-related Conferences

  • TEIN was proposed by Korea at the 3rd ASEM Summit (Oct 2000, Seoul) and adopted as an official ASEM project for an Asia–Europe research network.
  • TEIN2 outcomes were recognized at ASEM ICT SOM (Jun 2006, Vietnam) and 1st ASEM ICT Ministerial (Nov 2006, Vietnam) for promoting Asia–Europe joint research and narrowing the information gap.
  • TEIN2 opening at ASEM6 Summit (Sep 2006, Finland) highlighted the need for continuous operation in the ASEM6 Chairman's Statement.

GENI

  • Participation in GENI Engineering Conferences and cooperation with NSF/GENI on a global future network testbed.
  • Shared status and discussed cooperation directions with GENI leadership.

ASEAN

  • Attended the ASEAN Information Infrastructure Expert Meeting to share progress and promote Korea–ASEAN research test cooperation.
